The Zombie is the new mob that was added in Alpha 36. The Zombie begins to attack on sight and there isn't much at the moment you can do to defend yourself. The only tools/weapons available to damage the Zombie is the Axe and the Pickaxe.
As of Alpha 37, Zombies spawn automatically.
